Frequently asked questions
Are You A Sports Club?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Our name, InterVarsity, literally means "between colleges." We started as a prayer meeting between Oxford and Cambridge in the 1800s, where the universities are called varsities. So no, we are not a sports group even though some of us enjoy a pick-up game every now and then. Also, some of our small groups are made up of varsity sports teams. If you are on a varsity team at FIT and are interested in being a part of a small group (or start your own) contact us at ivcf.fit@gmail.com
Are You Guys A Church?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: InterVarsity is a parachurch organization, meaning we are neither a church nor affiliated with any particular denomination. However we welcome people of all church backgrounds, or no church background. IV is a common place for us to hang out and talk about Jesus. Check out www.intervarsity.org for more info about the organization.
What Do You Believe?
Short answer: We believe in God, and Jesus Christ, His Son and our Savior, the only way for us to have eternal life. We believe that Jesus died so that our sins could be covered and we could be reconciled to God and have a relationship with Him. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Comforter and Teacher who Jesus sent to dwell in us and lead us in the will of God.
Long answer: Check out our "Doctrinal Statement" on InterVarsity's website.
Who Is IVCF For?
Short answer: InterVarsity welcomes all students.
Long answer: InterVarsity is multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, inter-denominational, and worldwide. Whatever race, culture, and spiritual background you come from, we want to meet you.
Who is the staff?
Short answer: Juan and Taylor
Long answer: Juan Parra-Newton and Taylor Cannon are the InterVarsity Campus Staff at Florida Tech. They graduated from Florida Tech in the fall of '16 and spring of '17 respectively with a degree in Business and Chemical Engineering, again, respectively. They soon after signed on to be staff with InterVarsity at Florida Tech and now, as missionaries to college students, they get all the benefits of college without the classes. They love seeing students "get it" when it comes to understanding God. Meet Juan and Taylor. They'd enjoy getting to meet you.
